Migration Advice

The MIC has two migration agents who offer free migration advice to humanitarian entrants who have lived in Australia for less than five years and who are seeking to sponsor relatives or partners from overseas for permanent residence in Australia. The MIC can not provide advice to people seeking to settle in Australia from overseas.

The MIC also receives funding from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Affairs (DIAC) under the Immigration Advice and Application Assistance Scheme (IAAAS) to provide assistance to protetion visa applicants and no protection visa applicants to llodge their applciations with DIMA and to provide migration advice for sponsors of a spouse of ramily member. To be eligible for this service you need to live in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, be on a low income and have no disposable assets. In addtion you need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • You do not speak English;
  • You cannot seek independent help because of youth or cultural difficulties such as gender;
  • You are illiterate in your native language an/or principal language in your country of origin;
  • You have a physical or psychological disability, including as a result or past torture or trauma or
  • You have suffered or are suffering physical or psychological harm resulting from domestic violence

Safieh works full time and speaks Farsi and Dari. Wanling works one day per week and speaks Cantonese and Mandarin. Interpreters will be arranged for all other languages.
